Top 10 Quotes of Round 2

Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

Welcome back, another great round from the media who have really reached mid-season form already. As always if you hear some funny ones send them through to bottomofthepack@gmail.com or just facebook us. Onto the countdown.

NUMBER 10

Screen Shot 2016-03-28 at 21.51.04Commentating is a hard job. Sometimes you have to go early on something and occasionally it just doesn’t work out. Dwayne  Russell went early with a holding the ball call, but the umpire was late with his call which led to hesitation then correction.

“Did he have prior?……NO…………………YES!”

Reminiscent of the great Phillip J. Fry getting an idea.

NUMBER 9

Sometimes you just have no idea what the commentator says. This usually happens when Dermie goes off Screen Shot 2016-03-28 at 21.46.03on a tangent. However this week it happened when he was telling us the margin.

“22 points held by the northern boys”

What does that even mean Derm?

 NUMBER 8

Screen Shot 2016-04-03 at 23.07.52I also love when commentators make extremely obvious observations.

“I’m sure he would enjoy kicking a goal in his first game today.”

Thanks for that Brad, you definitely aren’t wrong there.

NUMBER 7

“Mate, you’re a the de de ce ce… the Cybil levitarians… the Cybil levitarisn… civil libertarians will get on their Screen Shot 2016-03-28 at 22.24.52high horse about anything.”

Jonathan Brown getting on his high horse about civil libertarians.

NUMBER 6

Screen Shot 2016-04-03 at 23.34.06Our first umpire is in this week. Chris Donlon was umpiring the Showdown as Adelaide kicked the ball inside 50. Jack Hombsch is the man infront, Eddie Betts comes over the top. Both have a solid grip on the footy and come down with it.

Donlon, using all of his umpiring experience adjudicates “Two hands on it!” No mark, play on.

Surely it goes to the man in front. But also, two hands on it? Chris, nearly all marks have 2 hands on it.

NUMBER 5

Jason Dunstall just doesn’t know what consistency in decisions by umpires means. Screen Shot 2016-04-03 at 23.46.18

“They’ve paid some frees up the other end of the field so good to see some consistency from the umpires”

Free kicks should be paid if they are there, doesn’t matter what location on the field we are in. C’mon Jase!

NUMBER 4

Screen Shot 2016-04-03 at 23.57.22This is where Bruce McAvaney went crazy on Friday night. Really made a huge effort for the quote of the week.

“They really need some good foot kicking.”

You could imagine my shock to find out there are other forms of kicking other than regular foot kicking.

NUMBER 3

Screen Shot 2016-04-03 at 23.57.29He then followed that effort up with the best praise someone could give to Collingwood after their enormous loss last week.

“This is the best Collingwood have played all season.”

Spot on Bruce. Spot on.

NUMBER 2

Screen Shot 2016-04-04 at 00.09.19Bruce also takes the number 2 spot after his blunt comments.  Shaun Hampson had just missed a shot on goal. As the Pies were kicking the ball back into play Bruce brings up team selection.

“Well Maric also will come back in next week for…………………someone.”

I wonder who for? That was savage Bruce! That man has a family.

NUMBER 1

Screen Shot 2016-04-04 at 00.05.48

The number 1 quote goes to a man who I think will be heavily featured here, Basil Zempilas. His highlight was calling the Showdown the Derby then stating the obvious right after that.

“Can they take a mark? It might be what they need.”

I do think a mark was what they needed. Port didn’t get it though and were throughly smashed.

Congratulations to all and especially Basil. Also two bonus ones for you this week courtesy of Dennis.

Dennis Cometti Pun of the Week: “It’s been a Fa-SOLO effort of sorts.”

Dennis Cometti Phrase of the Week: “An April Fools Classic!”

Also, incase you enjoyed the 2nd Bruce photo, here is a link to that skit.
