Top 10 Quotes of Round 1

Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

Here we shall enshrine some of the best quotes from the previous week in football. I can’t listen to everything, so if you hear some funny ones send them through to or just facebook us and enjoy getting likes. Anyway, onto this weeks top 10.

This requires a slight introductionScreen Shot 2016-03-28 at 21.30.32. Charlie Dixon probably hasn’t had to do too many TV interviews while playing for the Gold Coast. This is changing now that he is at Port Adelaide. He was on AFL360 when Gerard Whateley asked “Are you the sort of character that relishes the idea of being THE MAN for Port Adelaide up front?” A relatively simple question. Dixon used all of his media training to answer:

“Um.. I dunno…I mean it’s a… footballs… sort of thing…that is..well its…”

Well handled Charlie.

Dermott Brereton explaining how to tell when tides turn, well after the point of a tide turning. Screen Shot 2016-03-28 at 21.46.03

“If you have one team that has kicked 1 goal for the quarter, and the other has kicked 6, the tide has turned.”

“Welcome back to league footy James Kelly” – D. Russell, round 1, after Kelly played in round 23 last year.

A double header for this one:Screen Shot 2016-03-28 at 22.01.15

“Day has 3 to beat, and he does” – D. Russell as Sam Day beats his man, with a second defender arriving late. No 3rd man in sight.

Day went back and kicked the goal to which Alistair Lynch exclaimed:

“This is the best game Day has played this pre-season.”

Thanks Lynchy, but it is round 1. Not sure what was worse in the Gold Coast v Essendon game, the footy or the commentary.

Screen Shot 2016-03-28 at 21.30.42“Plenty of time left but that could change very, very quickly.” – G. Healy during the Melbourne v GWS game.

No Gerard, it won’t change very quickly. It will change at the same rate time always changes. Unless we were about to reach extreme speeds or extreme gravity, time will change constantly, not very, very quickly.

                        NUMBER 5Screen Shot 2016-03-28 at 22.12.31

Welcome to the man who I think will feature heavily here this season, Brian Taylor. He just knows the game so well. Let me set the scene. The score is 100 – 16 in Sydney’s favour, there are 9 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Uncertain of what to say, BT feels this is a good time to start predicting the outcome of the game.

“You get the feeling this will be a 100-plusa”

“Blokes are one-on-one against 2 or 3 defenders” – J. Brown, On The Couch.

A fine start to the season for Browny.

Mark Robinson on Kids “They remind me of when we were all kids.”Screen Shot 2016-03-28 at 22.29.49

Solid insight there thanks Robbo. On a similar note I am often reminded of a terrible haircut I once had, every time my friends send me a picture of it.

Screen Shot 2016-03-28 at 22.33.57“They had so much enthusiasm and already it has been drained from their bottom” – B. Taylor, Sydney v Collingwood

I guess what BT is trying to say here, is that the Pies were full of shit. Unfortunately, while being a great quote, it wasn’t good enough to bring home the biscuits

“Bit of Russian roulette there. Attack one way, then attack the other.”
G. Healy during the West Coast v Brisbane game, showing he has no idea what Russian roulette is. Congratulations Gerard, what a week for the Brownlow medallist.

That is it for this week. Good job by all involved in this weeks countdown. Honourable mention to Dennis Cometti for getting the WWE into his commentary as usual, I am sure he will make it into the countdown in future weeks.
