Gamblor’s Prop Bets and Round 1 Preview

Posted on Posted in Gamblor

Hello all and welcome to yet another year of cleaning out the bookies. For those new to these articles, Gamblor will take you through week by week his prognostications of the upcoming weekends footy and his recommended strategies for your volatile investment portfolio (i.e. Who to back in the footy).

With Round One there are very much two ways of looking at it. The “glass half empty” people say that you have no form to work off which makes it difficult to invest with any confidence. The “glass half full” people however, sniff value and feel you can get great odds on teams that the markets haven’t worked out are the real deal yet… Gamblor has a foot in both camps but there is money to be made nevertheless…

Before we get into the Round 1 action, Gamblor has had the crystal ball out and has placed some long term investments that we can follow through the season

  • Rising Star – Callum Mills @ $6
  • Brownlow – Daniel Hannebery @ $15
  • Coleman – Lance Franklin @ $6.50
  • GWS to make the 8 @ $2.50 (GET ON)
  • Western Bulldogs to MISS the 8 @ $2.10
  • Collingwood to make top 4 @ $3.50
  • Nth Melbourne to make top 4 @ $.350 (both won’t but one will)

And on to Round One….

Richmond vs Carlton

MCG Thursday 7.20PM (EST)

The Tigers are injury ravaged with no Lids, Maric, Conca & maybe Edwards but surely will still have too much for the baby Blues. Round 1 games are normally of a poor standard as players are easing themselves into action and this looks to be no exception.

Richmond by 32 points (89-57)

Recommended Bet:       Richmond by > 15.5 @ $1.40 seems a safe enough multi builder

North Melbourne vs Adelaide

Docklands Saturday 7.25PM

North have had a fairly incident free pre-season and hit round 1 in much better knick than they have previously as they have not won in Round 1 in some time. The Crows under new coach Pyke begin life post-Dangerfield and I imagine it will take some time to adjust

North by 23 points (101-78)

Recommended Bet:       North by > 15.5 @ $2.00 could be a nice way to double your money but Gamblor has learned the hard way not to trust North at any stage

Melbourne vs GWS

MCG Saturday 1.40PM

The Dees have been pre-season darlings, going through undefeated while the Giants will be heading into 2016 expecting to be making their debut appearance in finals action. If they are to do that, they need to be winning games like this…

GWS by 21 points (99-78)

Recommended Bet:       Not much value in the market here (was hoping GWS would be a better price) GWS 1-39 @ $2.15 is the best of a bad lot of odds

Gold Coast vs Essendon

Carrara 3.35PM

The Suns under Rocket Eade will (and need) to show a harder edge to match there undoubted talent while the bombers….well, I don’t think we will be betting in too many of their games in 2016

GC by 47 points (89-42)

Recommended Bet:       GC by > 15.5 @ $1.32 for the multi if you must

Sydney vs Collingwood

SCG Saturday 7.25PM

Here are two sides that will head into 2016 expecting to play finals. Pies have again recruited well and have the makings of a strong outfit albeit young one while the aging Swans keep on keeping on.

Collingwood by 5 points (81-76)

Recommended Bet: Seeing I’m tipping an upset, the Pies at the line (+7.5) seems value @ $1.90. To hedge your bet either side < 15.5 @ $2.75 could be worth a crack

Western Bulldogs vs Fremantle

Docklands Sunday 1.10PM

The toughest game of the round to call and the odds agree having them $1.90 each of two.

Fremantle by 11 points (87-76)

Recommended Bet: Fremantle at the line (-2.5) if you absolutely must. Gamblor won’t be involved

Port Adelaide vs St Kilda

Adelaide Oval Sunday 3.20PM

Port on the rebound after a shocker of a year while the Saints continue on in their rebuild.

Port by 64 points (121-57)

Recommended Bet:       Port by > 39.5 @ $2.35 seems ripping value on face value. Port at the line (-29.5) seems the BET OF THE ROUND. Also Port by > 15.5 @ $1.40 while we are at it. #allin

West Coast vs Brisbane

Subiaco Sunday 7.40PM

The Eagles at home after their amazing season in 2015 will be up and out against a young Brisbane team who will struggle to keep up

West Coast by 87 points (131-44)

Recommended Bet: WCE should cover the line (-57.5) @ $1.90 but not keen to play here

Geelong vs Hawthorn

Monday 3.20PM MCG

The Cats have been busy beavers in the off season strengthening up their list in an attempt to somehow the juggernaut that is #Fourthorn….see what I did there…. #youarewelcome

Hawthorn by 9 points (98-89)

Recommended Bet: While I have tipped Hawthorn, Geelong @ $2.40 seems a good price. Not a game that I have a great feel for to be honest but cannot wait to watch.

Lock Of The Week

Port Adelaide > 15.5 @ $1.40

Other Best Bets:

Port by > 29.5 @ $1.90

Richmond by > 15.5 pts @ $1.40

WCE by > 57.5 @ $1.90

High/Low Round 1

Highest Scoring Team –  WCE

Lowest Scoring Team –   Essendon (not the 1st time this will be tipped)

Top Individual Goal Kicker Round 1

Josh Kennedy (WCE)

Rich (>15.5) / GC (>15.5) / Coll (+7.5) / Pt (>39.5) / WCE (>60) @ $16 is worth a few Drachmas

Random Bet Of The Week

The random bet of the week will be from any sport in any part of the world that Gamblor likes that coming weekend.

And what the team at Bottom Of The Pack (#BOTP) will do is every week place a $5 multi combining the Random Bet of The Week with Gamblors Best Bet of the Footy Weekend with all profits going towards Beyond Blue (

This week Gamblor likes Peru to beat Venezuela in a Soccer World Cup Qualifier on Friday @ $1.50

So the Multi for Charity is Peru / Port > 15.5 @ $2.10 so hopefully there will be $10.50 for our friends at Beyond Blue
