Race 1
If you are rushing to the track to get their for the 1st, take your time. Tough race to start and not a lot to get too enthused about.
Selections: 9,4,6,5
Recommended Bet: Win bet on Silent Sedition (No.9) @ $4 but only if you must
Best Roughie: Pearl Star (No.2) will go forward and be in front for a long way @ $13
Race 2
Santa Ana Lane (No.6) has quite the wrap on him and as a result is very short. If he continues on from his last start win he’ll win this too. The 3 Sydney visitors will be the main contenders
Selections: 6,1,7,2
Recommended Bet: Win bet on Santa Ana Lane (No.6)
Best Roughie: Mahuta (No.7) won well in the bush last start and could show up here @ $17. Also Metallic Crown (No.2) was poor start but if you can forgive that, $13 is a great price
Race 3
Ball of Muscle (No.1) has the gun form here finishing a close 2nd in the Group 1 race at Friday week and looks the obvious one here. Kinglike (No.6) is a 3yo racing against older horses and a a real X factor. Lumosity (No.3) is 1st up from a break and could show up fresh.
Selections: 1,6,2,3
Recommended Bet: Win bet on either of the top 2 selections or quinella bet on 1 & 6. Would be surprised if anything outside these two wins here.
Best Roughie: n/a
Race 4
Even if you don’t bet here, make sure you watch as I reckon the Oaks winner is going around here…just don’t know which one it will be. The Sydney form look strong here Ambience (No.2) & Honesta (No.3) but again, they are too short for me. Maybe some value here with A Little Loose (No.6), Dawn of Hope (No.10) & Wichita Woman (No.14) all looking like the 200m will suit. Tricky one this.
Interesting note: Craig Williams has jumped off A Little Loose (No.6) to ride Sydney visitor Honesta (No.3). Hhhmmmm…
Selections: 2,6,14,10
Recommended Bet: When in doubt, back the obvious. Win bet on Ambience (No.2) @ $3
Best Roughie: A host of roughies could go well here including No’s 1,14 & 15 but A Little Loose (No.6) is definitely worth an each way ticket
Race 5
Sacred Eye (No.13) is a girl running against the boys and I reckon the girls are better this year so has a real show but to run as favourite? Again, another horse that I will probably tip to win but can’t back at the price. A lot of these horses ran behind Ayers Rock at Flemington a fortnight ago and take the punt that the form from that race isn’t flash.
Get The Picture (No.4) & Ragnaar (No.10) both ran behind a good horse at Mooney Valley last time out and reckon that is the race that may provide the winner. Get The Picture sustained a long run which shows the extra distance will suit and Ragnaar (No.10) has no luck whatsoever and from the good barrier will get the gun run and a change of luck will see him winning this.
Selections: 13,10,4,1
Recommended Bet: Good betting race this. Win bet on Sacred Eye (No.13) @ $4 Each Way Bet of Ragnaar (No.10) @ $6 and a saver bet on Get The Picture (No.4) @ $9. Will win from this race
Best Roughie: Ayers Rock (No.3) beat most of these home last start and yet is still $16. Will lead which can be suited at Caulfield
Race 6
Prepared to risk Stratum Star (No.1) here. Has been great for us of late but the distance + 59 kgs may test. Fenway (No.5) was an impressive winner last start and hasn’t missed a place at her 3 goes at the distance. If you including Fenway you have to consider Thunder Lady (No.7) who is a bit of a non-winner but will relish the trip. Saddler Lake (No.6) had no luck last time and will go well here also.
However the one to beat here is Dibayani (No.2) and at around the $7 is a each way certainty. His 3 starts since coming over from Hong Kong have been solid but have been in unsuitable WFA races. Back to handicap here and if Zac Purton can get luck from the gate will be hard to toss
Selections: 2,5,6,9
Recommended Bet: Strong Each Way bet on Dibayani (No.2) @ $7 Just pray that Zac gets luck from the gate.
Best Roughie: Velox (No.9) is a horse on the up and @ $13 is worth consideration
Race 7
Under The Lourve (No.8) is the best weighted horse going around at Caulfield and has been backed accordingly but at the short price is a little bit of a risk. From the wide barrier he will go back to last so your heart will be in your mouth for a while if you wish to take the short quote.
Vashka (No.4) is a tough-as-teak leader who has been good in all 3 starts this prep and comes down from Sydney in great knick. Rough hopes also to No’s 5, 6 & 9 who have good records at the distance.
Selections: 4,5,6,8
Recommended Bet: Small Each Way on Vashka (No.4) @ $7
Best Roughie: Sentium (No.9) @ 13 is worth a place ticket at least
Race 8
Funny race this. Either the favourite Catkins (No.2) wins easily or anything could. If you can forgive Catkins last start failure she will win this easily and alas I’m not the forgiving type (as many an girlfriend can attest). Sabatini (No.6) won well 1st up and is 2 from 2 second up and at the price is a far safer investment. A host of roughies could also run well here if the favourites trips up No’s 3,4,5,12 & 13
Selections: 6,4,2,5
Recommended Bet; Each Way on Sabatini @$6
Best Roughie: Hazard (No.5) finally draws a good barrier which will help and $13 is way overs
Race 9
The Cup is normally tough and this is no exception with a host of local & international chances.
Have been on Mongolian Khan (No.6) for a month to win this race but at his current price I can’t have him. Will run great though. The internationals led by the two Japanese horses (No’s 3 & 5) and the English horse Snow Sky (No.2) at their best will dominate but you never know with them.
A host of other chances led by Set Square (No.17) who was unlucky last start and gets in here with no weight. Royal Descent (No.10) will need luck from the barrier but if he gets it, deserves to break through at Group 1 level. If you can forgive Rising Romance (No.14) last start, she will get the gun run from the barrier and has been set for this. Nearly won this race last year too!
Selections: 2,17,10,6,3,12,14
Recommended Bet: Each Way any of my top 6. Don’t let me talk you out of anything.
Best Roughie: Royal Descent (No.10) @ $21 is overs
Race 10
The traditional lottery to finish off the program. The pace will be hot here and by late in the day, I’m backing the winners will be coming wide and from the back of the field. That all adds up to Brook Road (No.5) getting this run to suit.
Selections: 5,6,1,7
Recommended Bet: Win Bet on Brook Road (No.5)
Best Roughie: The two Hayes horses (No’s 1 & 2) can show up here at odds…
Best Bet

Race 2 No.6 – Santa Ana Lane

Race 6 No.2 – Dibayani
