AAAS Power Rankings – Round 6

Posted on Posted in Power Rankings

So after a weeks absence, the AAAS PR are back and there has been some substantial movement.

The big winners have been WCE & GWS while Essendon & Richmond are the big losers. Some interesting take aways from the ratios too:

– Port Adelaide, Geelong & Nth Melbourne have the highest LRS which indicates we should take it easy on them as their losses have been to primarily high performing opposition.

– Adelaide have won for games but still have a low WRS so the jury is still out of them. Haven;t beaten anyone of note…yet. Ditto for North Melbourne

– Port Adelaide & Sydney should solidify there high positions as they have both a very low N4S

–  Gold Coast & Richmond have a high N4S so the next month is very much season defining for them

Any, here are the round 6 AAAS PR.

1. Fremantle 6-0 (-)

Comfortable wins over Melbourne & Essendon have the Dockers the dominant team in the competition. I see no reason why they won’t continue that streak against a hot & cold Doggies outfit but Freo have been known to drop games at Etihad that they should win (St Kilda the last 2 years…)

WRS: 9.83     LRS: n/a     N4S: 10

2. Sydney 4-2 (-)

A rare loss at the SCG to the Doggies but backed up convincingly albeit against a poor Demons side. Still not 100% sold on Sydney version 2015 with a tricky couple of weeks coming up starting with the visit of the Cats. A low N4S means wins should start banking up.

WRS: 10.5     LRS: 13     N4S: 7

3. Port Adelaide 3-3 (-)

A brave win against their local rivals was offset somewhat by a rare home loss to WCE. Another team that are a way off their best but there is not point dazzling in round 6. The lowest N4S in the comp would suggest the good times will be coming back to Alberton but we may still in the dark as to where they are at. Brisbane shouldn’t hold too many fears.

WRS: 13.66     LRS: 15.66     N4S: 4.75

4. Hawthorn 3-3 (-)

The loss against GWS is a wake up call to all that if you take key players from any team, they come back to the field pretty quickly although I wouldn’t be panicking too much. Vengeance will be swift and the Dees will bear the brunt of it.

WRS: 10.3     LRS: 13     N4S: 7.5

5. Adelaide 4-2

Went through the motions against Gold Coast which didn’t really show us anything about what the story is with the Crows in 2015. St Kilda this week may leave us equally in the dark but what we do know is that the loss of Sloane & Jenkins for multiple weeks will hurt.

WRS: 8         LRS: 13       N4S: 9

6. Nth Melbourne 3-3

Very impressive in steam rolling a hapless Richmond in Tassie. Starting to build up a head of steam but that will come to a halt if they don’t knock off the Bombers on Friday night.

WRS: 8        LRS: 15       N4S: 12

7. WCE 4-2

Wow! I owe the Eagles an apology after there fantastic win in Adelaide against Port which sees them shoot up the rankings. Somehow with all the injuries they are getting the job done. Should continue with a home game against fellow Coasters.

WRS: 7.75     LRS: 14      N4S: 7.75

8. Collingwood 4-2

The Pies had a big reality check on the weekend with the Cats catching them unawares. The Pies are a really promising young side and one of the side effects of young sides in inconsistency so expect expect a bit of this as the season goes on.

WRS: 4.5      LRS: 11.5     N4S: 6.25

9. GWS 4-2

Hows about ‘dem Giants?! Franchise altering win against the reigning premier at home has shown that on their day, GWS can beat anybody. But remember only 6 days previously they were pumped by WCE so don’t go locking in a win against Carlton on Saturday….or maybe you can….yeah, Carlton are crap :)

WRS: 6.5      LRS: 14.5      N4S: 6.25

10. Geelong 3-3

Were super impressive for a half against a Collingwood team who were ripe for the picking. Good to see but hardly enough to get me thinking that they are ‘back”. A win in Sydney against the Swans would do that however….

WRS: 6         LRS: 15          N4S: 9.25

11. Western Bulldogs 4-2

Well I could be positive and say how good the 1st half was. Or I could be negative and say how crap the 2nd half was. Either way it was a loss that brings them back to the pack somewhat.

WRS: 9.66     LRS: 11.66   N4S: 12

12. Essendon 3-3

The Bombers since beating Hawthorn have played really yucky footy culminating with a heavy loss to Freo. A low N4S means hopefully for Bombers fans they can start turning it around.

WRS: 8.33     LRS: 15.33    N4S: 7.25

13. St Kilda 2-4

A spirit lifting, morale boosting win against the odds on the weekend has put the pep back in the step at St Kilda. May find it tough this week in Adelaide against the Crows.

WRS: 5        LRS: 7.75        N4S: 10.75

14. Richmond 2-4

It is deja vu all over again for the Tigers with a sluggish, uninspiring start to 2015. Never really looked like it against North and really need to show something against the Pies on Sunday or else the coach will be right under the pump. A sky high N4S means it only gets tougher from here.

WRS: 2.5      LRS: 9.75     N4S: 13

15. Melbourne 2-4

After a promising start, the Dees are starting to look more like what we have seen over the last few years. Another team with a high N4S means it will be a tough month ahead, starting with the reigning premiers on the rebound.

WRS: 3.5      LRS: 14.5      N4S: 12.50

16. Gold Coast 1-5

All 7 of the available Suns players were unsurprisingly outclassed by the Crows but with Bennell and his boozy mates back this week they might be more competitive in the coastal derby in Perth. Might even fly over with the boots and see if I can score my long awaited 1st AFL game…

WRS: 2        LRS: 8           N4S: 13.75

17. Brisbane 1-5

A great win on Sunday on what will go down as one of the worst games of AFL ever played which finally got the Lions off the mark in season 2015. With a fit Rockcliff back, hopefully this can be the start of a good run for the boys from Wollongong. The Power on the rebound this week isn’t ideal though…

WRS: 1        LRS: 7.5       N4S: 10.5

18. Carlton 1-5

Well, what do you say? The Blues were disgusting in a game in which they had ample opportunity to win but just were not good enough. While this team isn’t great, it shouldn’t be the worst in the comp so there are issues on and off the field. Can only hope the GWS that went to Perth rock up and not the one that beat the Hawks. A high N4S means the outlook is just as bleak…

WRS: 3      LRS: 7.6       N4S: 12.5
